Last day – time for some rest after all the hikes and wandering around. First, we visited the Golden bay.
Than we went for a short walk to Ghajn Tuffieha bay – we spent the time swimming, playing cards & reading a good book. 🙂 In the evening we went to say good-bye to our Malta scout friend – Gail. — Thank you so much for everything… I think you can never feel the culture if you don’t talk and bond to a native. 🙂
Almost the last day of our holidays – we went in a small town with famous Maltese boats – Luzus. 🙂
Than we went on a short hike to Saint Paul’s pool. Full of jellyfishes & we met that dog and his owner there when he told us they are famous! 🙂 We met Titti – the diving dog. Video below. 😉
Here is the video of our new friend – they didn’t jump that day because of the jellyfishes 🙂 But still – it was nice to meet them. 🙂
We talked about Malta and Comino and on day 5 we visited the third island – Gozo! 🙂
You get on ferry from Il Ćirkewa and the ticket cost 4, 65 € both was – there are some differences if you travel at night-time, if you have a car/a bike … The problem is that all the buses on Gozo drives once an hour and it all takes you back to its capital – Rabat/Victoria, where you can catch another. Again – we walked a lot! 🙂

This is all in Dwejra bay. 🙂 From there we went to Ramla bay – one of island most favourite beaches with red/oker sand.

And from there we went for a really long hike – WARNING – paths are misleading. It looks like there is a path even application “Maps.me” (it’s navigation where you don’t need internet connection – great app for all the travellers!) says so. You can walk up to several kilometers when the path ends or it is full of rocks, thorns and other difficulties. But it was a great adventure! 😀

There are 3 different islands in “Malta”: Malta, Gozo and Comino – the last one is the smallest with only a few residents. It has an amazing beach called Blue lagoon and some amazing cliffs. We went for a hike around the island (3 hours) and here are the photos. 🙂

Comino
Situated between Malta and Gozo, the smaller island of Comino is a paradise for snorkelers, divers, windsurfers and ramblers.
Only 3.5 square kilometers, Comino is car-free and apart from one hotel, is virtually uninhabited.
The island’s main attraction is the Blue Lagoon. In summer, this sheltered inlet of shimmering aquamarine water over white sand is very popular with day-trippers. Other beaches on the island include Santa Marija Bay and San Niklaw Bay.
Comino is also worth a visit in winter, and is ideal for walkers and photographers. With no urban areas or cars on the island, one can easily smell the scent of wild thyme and other herbs.
Comino was inhabited in the Roman period, but did not have much significance until the Knights arrived. It then had a dual role: hunting grounds and a staging post in the defence of the Maltese Islands against the Ottoman Turks.
The island had proved a useful base for pirates operating in the central Mediterranean and, though stark and barren today, it was home to wild boar and hares when the Knights arrived in 1530. The Grandmasters went to great lengths to ensure that their game on Comino was protected: anyone found breaking the embargo on hunting could expect to serve three years rowing on a galley.
After WWII, Comino remained a backwater until its fortunes revived with tourism in the mid-1960s.

Comino has one resort hotel, which is ideal for those looking for a tranquil getaway.
The third day we spontaneously end up in Valetta in the morning. 🙂 Cute city at the seaside – it is totally different from our capital city in Slovenia.
10 € for a beautiful boat ride. It lasted around 20 minutes and we went into some caves – Blue grotto is the one with amazingly blue coloured water. They believed that the caves are homes for some mermaids. 🙂 We didn’t see any, but the water and light are really playing some magical games with each other. 🙂
We didn’t enter the village because there was a lot of people, so we decided to take a hike from anchor bay to Golden bay. 🙂 We walked for two hours and the views were amazing.
So, this was our day two on Malta. With bumpy rides we arrived in Mdina early in the morning. 🙂 This was the capital of Malta in history so it is very nice – besides there was something going on there. As we found out later it was “Medina medieval festival” wich happens once a year.

After the event we went to get something to eat – we tried typical food like always when we travel. We tried pastizzi: one filled with ricotta cheese, one with chicken and the last with peas in it. It is very good and it only cost 30 cents! 🙂
Near Mdina there is a city called Rabat and we gave 5 € each to enter St. Paul’s catacombs – wow ! Scary, but so interesting. People of all religions buried their loved once under the ground. The graves and worship rooms are all parts of giant underground labyrinth of death.

Our Maltese scout friend named Gail said we have to meet for a drink in Saint Julian’s. This is the real party side – 3 streets full of clubs, bars etc. 🙂 We tried great local beer – Cisk. 🙂 And than? We called it a day.
Hey guys, it’s been a while since a posted and that’s because we were exploring Malta for the last seven days. Since there are so much photos and things that happened, I decided to write one article for each day. We also wrote a diary, so here are our experience and impressions. 🙂
We traveled to Malta with Ryan air from Treviso (Italy) – cheap flights, on time, nothing special. The whole surprise started when we landed on Malta and meet our taxi driver. We asked him how far is the hotel and he said: “Many, many, many minutes.” And he was driving like crazy – Maltese people are driving on the left side of the road while we drive on the right. We use horns when trying to remind some driver that he made a mistake or whatever – they are using horns at every curve so they let everyone know that they are here and that they are not slowing down. 😀 It was really adventures ride, we almost caused an accident a few times. my boyfriend even threw up when we came to the hotel. 😀 But anyway, we found it interesting how different the culture can be, even we live quite close.
The same day we purchased the bus ticket “Tallinia card; explore unlimited travel” This is the card for 21 € per person but you can drive as much as you want for 7 days. If you have the plan to see a lot of things and drive a lot with the buses, this is really cheap. When we were calculating how much would we pay for each ride, we came to conclusion that we would pay 21 € in just 2 and a half days for all the rides we had. So it is really the cheapest option for travelling Malta. 🙂
Thoughts: Crazy drivers, bad traffic, long traveling time – we were so happy that we didn’t have the money to rent a car. 😀
We stayed in a cheap hotel in Buggiba. People were very friendly, but they don’t have the working rhythm that we have in Slovenia. They are slow, with the smile on their faces, friendly … and they do not panic or worry too much. 🙂 We could learn something from them. We went for a walk in the town – nice, calm, with a lot of mini markets, restaurants, and other amazing places. It is especially beautiful in night-time. It was also calm but they say it is very touristic and loud in the summer.
Thoughts: Their 21 degrees are so much warmer than ours! It’s not cold even at night-time, the weather is amazing! Feels just like summer. But taped water isn’t very good – they produce it from the sea water so it has a special taste.
On first day we didn’t have the time to explore much so we just headed to aquarium in Buggiba – aquarium is small (When you compare it to the Genova or Barcelona aquarium) but it is very beautiful. The theme of an aquarium is Malta – its special boats Luzu’s, their sunken ships and monuments … The entrance is 12 € per person but it is worth it.
Thoughts: We first saw The leopard shark and the zebra shark. Great! 🙂
